Although they have been a lifesaver for me they probably are not what I would use today, however because they are not consumer oriented you have a LOT of control all the way up to locking out the thermostat completely to only follow your programming.

Also, find out whether they should be instructed to stay out of the property or if it’s safe to enter (structural issues?)

Don't sign up for some expensive training program, but do find that grey hair mentor in your town.  

Right now I am in a paid mentorship program but I didn't join that until I gained a clarity and focus of my short and long term goals.

@Sandra Andrews @Brandt Baize We found out about the program through Life Changer Loan, who is a broker.

Instructions were “this Is going to be a long term hold I don’t need White House cost on parts but I want long lasting parts, I.e. the 50.00 metal toilet repair kit instead of the 20.00 plastic one.”

Now, that is generally speaking, I know there are some programs out there that might allow you to do it but you will need to find the right lender or broker (which I'm sure you might find here in BP forum).
