Wild crazy guess here but what about changing the batteries on the smoke detector..

Interested to see the feedback on allowing smoking inside the property.

Would it be safe to use that lease and just change some things based on my choices (about pets, smoking, etc.) or do most people hire a lawyer to do one from scratch?

If this is an out of town property, you’ll likely want to or have to travel periodically.

Of course the safest thing is just to do it but then again I wonder how much does that opens me up to liability in case of a fire and or worse, death on one of my properties because a faulty or death battery in a smoke detector.

I have traveled the country and there are only a handful of places I would rather live and all of those places (Santa Barbara, Malibu, SD, etc) are extremely expensive so they will have to wait for retirement.

No need for travel and no need for a QCD.
