Sometimes it's best to keep in the original owner's name because the insurance is often cheaper if they've owned it for a while with no claims.Regarding paying him off when the balloon is due, I think the most common approach would be to get long term financing and pay your uncle off.

I read everything I could on BiggerPockets on syndications (including such articles as "The Compelling Tax Benefits of Real Estate Syndication") and searched on the wide web and nothing even hints at how a cash distribution (what I often hear referred to as a "dividend") is anything but taxable income like you'd get on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV.So what is a distribution if it's so independent of the taxable income?

Often times  accountants write off a lot more than you may be receiving in real life so dont be surprised when the lender uses worst case numbers.- Also when you leave your current home, or vacate your current home will you have a rental agreement(s) in place so you can use that income to offset your mortgage payment?
