Getting paid for birddogging

How do you make sure you get paid for finding a property for someone? I am mostly going to be wholesaling so I get that, but I'm thinking about driving around looking for vacant properties during my lunch break, which is in a different market than my wholesaling market and would make more sense for me to just shoot properties over to buyers rather than going through the wholesale process.

Thanks!

@Elizabeth Wilson thanks for the info! I'll definitely do what you suggested.

@Christopher Phillips I wasn't actually planning on connecting two parties (I thought that was considered wholesaling and would expect a lot more for getting it under contract ;) I was thinking about doing more of what Elizabeth said. I've had people reach out to me who are paying just for leads, so that's what I was actually referring to. My apologies if that was confusing.
