My PM is obsessed with the idea of attracting a commuting professional.

You will see some mobility I am sure.I suspect, as a commuting hub to NYC and other urban area, that we may see an influx of more young professionals from the cities.

If you build a custom house you will typically spend more than the property will resell for, especially if you're outside of commuting distance for major cities.

In that example, I'd advertise in Sacramento, because those tenants will know about the Davis schools being better, normally, and it might be worth moving if the price was right, and then they could just commute to Sacto - lots of people do. 

I was listening to a podcast on my commute to school, "We Study Billionaires", and they had brought one of the BP guys on.

Any of the Bedroom communities people might realistically live in more economically and still commute to their job in Austin.

My wife and I decided to rent it out recently because my commute for work was too far.

I'm not a huge fan of the area, but many people aren't as resistant to the commute as they were 10 years ago.

I could buy a residence for myself, but then would have about an hour commute time each day, and pay a significantly higher mortgage than what I currently pay in rent.  

Often when I'm doing a property analysis I just pull up a map and calculate commute time to Medical Center.
