We're still in the exploratory phase so still nailing down a strategy, but I think we're planning to start with SFHs that cost around 100K - and in an ideal world with the aim to buy one at a time while we get comfortable but hoping to scale up with a new place every 6 months or so until we have around 5.

Part of my initial plan would be the equity / bond markets to help preserve my capital, offset inflation and provide me with a yearly withdrawal rate that would pay for my lifestyle.I am also considering where I can go / learn / invest in to put some of this capital to use within the RE world.

You are unlikely to see any money after he leaves and by the time you are done with court and collections that’s about what you would end up with in a perfect world.
