You may be able to find a smaller local/regional portfolio lender that might do it but I'll bet good money you won't get anywhere trying this with like BofA or Wells Fargo and the like.If you are going to try to pay off all the private financing it is much more realistic.

I'm now 2 houses and 2 kids later on my owner-occupied journey, and while the bigger house and bigger equity I am currently in are nice, I loved living free with 450/mo x 3 units covering my $890/mo mortgage + tax/ins back then.Back to you ...- I second idea of entity owning and you renting.

This might be a pretty unique question, but since I know there are several people who started their RE journeys buying a MF house and living in one of the units, I'm hoping there might be someone who can shed some light on my question.Background: I own a triplex with legal non-conforming zoning (zoned for duplexes) that I bought with FHA financing in September 2013.

This sounds to me like a normal deal in lots of the "up and coming" dc neighborhoods like Columbia Heights (full disclosure this is where my house is), H st, Adams Morgan (although I think we can all agree adams morgan is never going to actually get out of the up and coming phase), etc.TL;DR I would bet this is legit.
