Over the past few months I have been consistently researching the benefits and logistics of investing in real estate and realized that this is something I could potentially do for my senior year.

If you journey is anything similar to mine, then I recommend joining a brokerage that has a lot of senior agents or successful agents that are happy to have you join them on listing appointments and/or open houses. 

You also need to demonstrate that you will be hiring US citizens eventually and contributing to the economy.  

Does anyone know of mortgages a U.S. citizen can get to purchase property in Mexico?

There are a lot of places cracking down on STRs because they are challenging for the cities to manage with the citizens that pay taxes there and have businesses there.
