I live in california, i have lived in this same apartment for eighteen years, the rugs have never been cleaned,it was touch up with the paint..I cannot do anything as the paint is the old paint and has since then been changed..I was reading about how we can be charged for this when we move..is this so ???

By the room you need to furnish the common area so you can add area rugs etc to deal with noise.

If the floors are a hard surface (ie no carpet), have them put down a few area rugs in areas where they spend a lot of time.Regardless there will be some sound of footsteps, but it really shouldn't be that loud as the buildings are built to dampen the sounds between units.

From my experience, hardwood floors tend to suffer more from dog nails.You could also try and encourage the use of rugs to protect more of the surface area.

The least invasive thing to do would be to ask your upstairs tenant to put down some large area rugs and runners down the hallway.

I might find something similar, or just try to patch it & the tenant can put a kitchen rug or pad in front of the sink area, which would cover it.Is this damage something that tenant should be charged for if I could hire someone to replace the tile?
