If the whole point of due diligence is to make sure everything is in order from what was advertised and offer an opportunity to re-state terms or back out legally from a deal, then it would seem those contractors that did all the engineering/appraisal/inspection work would still need to get paid somehow -- which would then come out of investors pockets on that deal that did not close.

I've rented/listed my MTR via both third-party booking sites (they screen) and self advertisement (I screen).For tenants that do not book through a site, my vetting process is no different from what I do for LTRs; application, background check, etc. and the tenant pays for the screening.
