I just put a Mr cool DIY in the garage of my new STR and I am enjoying it so far!

Over the years I have ordered many free "energy savings kits" and free "weatherization kits" from our local utility companies or have picked them up at home & garden shows.

Isn't that because a house needs to be in a "liveable" condition to qualify for conventional mortgages - or else funds to fix major items must be escrowed at closing and then fixed by approved contractors, not DIY by the buyer?

I'd like to test for Radon before I invest in a system.So, my question is, can I skimp on a DIY test and get a decent enough result to make a decision?

There's nothing wrong with hiring someone to change your oil any more than it's not wrong to hire someone to mount your sink.Between my wife and I (pretty much just my wife), we can usually DIY if needed, but it's always harder, sloppier, and more time-consuming than if we could hire a contractor. 

The main problem I'm running into is that I'm very unexperienced when it comes to DIY work as well.

Add kitchen/laundry to basement so that the tenants in basement have their own kitchen/washer/dryer.If anyone has insight on which would cost more, be an easier DIY, etc...

I came up with buying kit homes produced in China and putting them in people's backyards.

Find a friendly contractor to walk it with you and give you a ballpark estimate for the changes you envision, even if you plan to DIY.
