There was an addition to the property prior to the current owner and my guess would be that the addition was not permitted.

I noticed our attorney's office used it once to stamp my membership certificate, but otherwise I heard the stamp's function is one of tradition rather than necessity.I still use it every now and then for official documents that my manager signs, such as business permits, leases, etc.
