Have you had an experience where things looked great until a discovery or inspection radically changed your perspective on the property?

I've received unfavorable feedback from unqualified tenants; from their perspective, my screening process is "over the top" (as one put it), because I was renting the basement "not a real apartment." 

@Daniel Callahan speaking from a lending perspective there are loan types out there that can help you. 

From a personal financial perspective, you are not gaining any equity and are paying someone else’s mortgage for them by renting (assuming you are if I read that correctly).

I come from the rental market perspective as I work for a full service property management company.  

The unexpected happening..........From a real estate agent perspective you would have a hard time selling it as an illegal duplex.

Post it for rent and by default any responses you get allow some insight into a perspective tenant's lifestyle before you even respond.
