I do recommend to use inspection, especially since I am abroad investor.In addition, the inspection report help me to make sure the contractor quote covered all major issues, and I also use the inspector to visit during the rehab to make sure the contractor finished each construction stage.Investing ~$250 in inspection in compare to the money you invest in buying and rehabbing is not major and reduce your risk.Good luck.

I do only have this one house, and I keep very detailed records, but I realize there are suddenly a bunch of tax rules that may affect me and I know little about.Should I have a home inspection done to determine any code issues or safety issues to correct prior to converting the property to a rental?

Yes/NoAny follow up conversation information will then be logged after:6/20/18:  Called again and spoke to David, he is interested in meeting at the property for a walk through on 6/25/18.6/25/18:  Met at property, will be expecting itemized estimate from David by 6/30/186/30/18: Received estimate, need to go over this and compare to other two estimates.And so on and so on, so I don't lose track of my communications with each person.That is the sort of stuff I am talking about.
