The thermostat is an Emerson Sensi that connects via WiFi so I don't worry about that, but the Schlage uses batteries so Z Wave is essential.

every state lets you store solar which is just the process of adding a battery, which is super costly and pointless because we are spending too much to justify the ROI unless you are in an area that has blackouts. 

There are two areas of expenses, those that must be done and those that are purely astatic.

And some of the statements above indicted people still think that way....yeah if I'm only making $2400/year and something goes wrong, I'm screwed..... my "cash flow" just disappeared for a couple of years..But not if that $2400/year is really pure profit even after I have already budgeted and accounted for putting a new HVAC or roof or whatever into the unit.
