All three components can be time consuming, but scaling in the note industry is absolutely doable.

How can small developers out-maneuver/compete against large scale builders who are flooding a growing market?

Now as a business owner that takes staff tIme, as Yiur compny grows you have to be able to scale and eventually have dedicated person or people doing this task.

I started as a builder and scaled from there.

You have to do extra due diligence on the association and its reserves, but in our case, we like the efficiencies of scale the HOA provides.  

The main feature of the Amazon for Hospitality program I was hoping for was a way to reset the data between guest visits, which may actually be a more complex setup through Amazon to PMS integration for larger scale operators. 

IMHO there needs to be more spread and spillover in the future and continued growth of tech will spur offices and jobs outside the SF Bay Area at a larger scale than before.

With the right relationships, you will eventually find the money (retiree's are a great source of capital), experience (those who have run a successful business or businesses), knowledge (real estate law, contract law, title matters, etc.) and skills (negotiation, marketing, leveraging) needed to scale your business.

I have been able to scale up to 12 doors in 2 years so definitely recommend this area.
