For drain lines buried in the ground, which are expensive to dig up and replace, why would I dig up a 50 year old line to replace it when it might literally last another 100 years!

IS there a way to make them pay for this especially bcos they are  not keeping up with the maintenance of their HVAC unit and this is the second year in a row that this damage occured? 

Seller is shying away from SF for now, and doesn't want to close until Jan 1 for taxes/soc sec reasons.
