This is an excellent idea and something my wife and I do, plus a little more.When we screen someone, we get their credit report.

The advise you have received is all excellent, attending local meetings is an excellent way to learn the local market as well as to pick the brains of those who are in the trenches. 

I'm not a big fan of video for information (I enjoy it as an art form, but most REI videos don't quite aspire to that, lol).

They generally have a csv excel list you can just merge with a word document and pump out some personalized letters. http://www.agentlinkus.com/content/reo-bpo-signup-...It is always a good idea to apply and start completing BPO's when aspiring to be an REO Agent.  

With Excel recalcing really instantly makes this easy.

For starters, I could definitely use some good referrals to an excellent real estate CPA and an excellent real estate attorney in the area.  

So far, I've just been scraping market data from city-data and then using v-lookups in excel to score individual properties.
