If you asked me to install carpet in one of your worst rentals, then asked me to discount the labor, I could do it and still make a living.I would specify that you are asking for a lower quality job in the contract and if you agreed to it, I'd do as asked.

It's true that you'll never know until you ask, and the worst thing they can say is no!  

Just find what you are comfortable with, but plan for worst case scenario and hope for the best.
