@Steve VaughanSteve, you sounds like the type of guy everyone would love to shadow!

I think you will gain a lot of oppurtunity to work with investors and gradually start to see what you want as an investor and possibly get to shadow some.

As for working under a real estate investor, do you recommend just trying to get in with one and trying to shadow them over a long term, or get more of a set position?

I would like to meet some like minded people or even people that are currently investing who I could shadow for a bit and learn some of the key thing to getting started.

Inventory is very slim where I am (Atlanta, GA area) and I'm trying to find good inventory that is not on the MLS so I have a better shot and getting a good deal on a property.Any other advice is very welcomed as I am completely in the dark as to what to expect from this meeting and how I should approach it.
