I small bank can be in worse shap than a larger regional bank.The advantage with a smaller bank is that officers and directors are usually local, the loan policy can be more liberal and allow for more flexibility in lending than say BoA where guidelines are set in stone.

I read the Economist religiously and thought about including them in my list above; but, I find that they generally tend to be "fiscally conservative" (though not always) and "socially liberal", so I assumed most people would argue that they aren't really objective, since they lean in both directions.But, I definitely agree that most of their writers tend to be pretty fair, even if some of the topics slant one way or the other...
