Given the domestic political climate and numerous international factors I can't see real estate not being affected in someway.

First, the term "free trade," refers to international trade...not domestic.

They often resent any poster who makes money from educating or consulting - sometimes to the point of hatred.

I do have a US phone number on Skype on which I talk to realtors, cash buyers etc so callers will only pay the US domestic rates, not international, so that at least is not an obstacle. 

If you're raising money from domestic investors or North American private equity it's really tough to find deals that pencil.

if you do business outside of the state you register in you need to domesticate your corporation in the new state and register it there as well.
