I can't say if or exactly how  Academia has helped me with REI, but I can say that everything I accomplish propels me to my next venture or ambition.For those of you that say it hasn't helped you at all-you are wrong.

Academia is especially generally wrong on leadership because of it's near lack of leaders.

Looks super nerdy and the line up is all academia economists for the most part.  

I concluded that I wasn't really that interested because if I was, I would have learned the subject on my own without academia.

Besides, contracts, union arrangements, etc. have a way of deteriorating over time, so don't make a decision based on expectations that may not come to fruition.FWIW, I have an MBA in Finance, and one of my grad school professors was sufficiently impressed w/ me that he encouraged me to get my Doctorate and go into academia.
