I thought I'd introduce myself and share my situation real quick.I'm 39 y.o, live in Denver (renting a 1b apartment) and work in aviation, which takes me away from home 2 weeks at the time, but allows me to be 2 weeks home at the time.

I took the first step to get to this point in my aviation career at the age of 15.

With my love for aviation came a general search and deal analysis over time.

I am a licensed pilot and aviation is my passion. 

The rental market is very strong here currently and I would agree with the aviation industry we are more resilient with market fluctuations.  

One is my old Aviation partner his company is relevanthomes in Oregon you can google.. and there are others who build them in factory's and crane them in.so there are many who are a decade ahead of you I would study what they do.. also working in a jurisdiction that is anti development and density is probably not a smart thing to do.. find out where they want them then work there.

My background is the aviation industry, with a degree in engineering.

I lived in SoCal during the financial crisis and in hindsight would have bought up more to possibly exit my aviation career.
