I may pay a bit more to own vice rent, but my counter-tops, flooring, toilets, door handles, etc. are all ones that I picked out and that (to me at least) more than makes up for the added cost of ownership.

Also have had some AC work done for $75 (two capacitors and a fan).Between both houses I've probably paid about 3600 over 3 years, plus ~600 in service call fees.The wall oven was 2,200.The cook top was 1,600.The HVAC on the rental was 2,000+.The fridge in the rental was $900.The disposal in the rental was $120.It's been a value so far, for me at least.
