This is a ski town and lots of people look for 6 month rent in the winter and you can't find places in the summer if you dont book 4 to 5 month in advance.

I us Airbnb and VRBO for a ski cabin and have had GREAT results.We have not created our own website, but plan to in the future.

@Steve Dove , you are absolutely correct about some people resorting to adolescent behavior.

The town is close to ski resorts and the redevelopment agency has just started investing a lot in the downtown area. 

You should make sure there's not something similar in Maine.One project I worked on that did this successfully was in Napa Valley where they turned an mhp on a beautiful property into a hotel destination with rates of $400 night: The Carneros Resort and Spa.

I have a ski cabin that I use AirBNB and VRBO and knock it out of the park.  

Regarding your comments about rentals in Spain, demand is very high in the popular coastal resorts such as Marbella, Nerja, Malaga, Alicante, Almeria, Valencia, Barcelona, and as such can provide a good ROI.

There's a mountaintop ski resort in West Virginia that sells condominiums within the resort and then has in-house property managers that run the unit as a rental property whenever it's not in use by the owner (in my case, that would mean always).
