They are inevitable expenses, and there's already so much room for error on projecting numbers, better to stay conservative.

However, I do not plan on investing in this area due to hurdles of entry such as expensive product and high competition.

there is a reason certain investments require accredited investor or existing relationships.  

If our kids go with us and we drive to LA on a Sunday, all of our direct car related expenses are tax deductible even though the kids are in the car including 1/2 of the meals for my wife and I.  

To keep expenses down I would like to perform some of the cosmetic work myself.
