Why can't you start with some smaller residential or small multifamily commercial properties to get your feet wet, show proof of concept and possibly try to take on larger deals.Or possibly find a local syndication group and become an employee under them learning the trade and finding a mentor in the space.

If you've saved enough, trying to house hack a local 2-family in your junior or senior year (maybe with a parent as a cosigner) would be ideal because you can learn landlording and experiment with your friends as tenants.

Be sure to have good exit strategy for if/when that happens.A wise mentor told me once that until you've "Battle tested" a strategy for at least 5 years thru one full economic cycle, consider it still all good luck.
