A lot of the social sites had low quality subscriber and user databases.So for years I stick to Twitter, Linked In, Facebook, You Tube and just try to grow those as the most people are using them.

If most of the replies come from people with limited commercial experience or from people who only went down one path, the answers will reflect their bias rather than be the best path.If you go on LinkedIn and search for people who are doing what you want to do, you can find out a lot more about their background, degrees and other details.
