A $50k house is not the end of the world where trying to save up for a 1 million dollar property here in LA will allow you no room for error and you will not be cash flowing I can pretty much guarantee you unless you found a diamond in a rough. 

A cupped diamond blade on an angle grinder would do the trick (with a lot of dust) You would not have to go  completely nuts on existing tile just enough deep scratches for bonding and not lying awake at night wondering if a tile will fall off the wall and hurt someone.

Toledo Ohio on the other hand is a diamond in the rough lol

My preferred method of dealing with concrete is a grinder with a diamond wheel and a vacuum attachment.
