There are plenty of real estate software/education scams out there so I felt like this was a very valid concern.

I have had problems with contractors also...specifically, when I had a reputable plumbing company do some work in my home and a defective pipe fitting failed...the contractor that I hired to do the reframing and remodeling tried to get me to join him in a scheme to scam the plumbing company out of money during the water damage repairs.    

The ones who lie and (imo) scam people out of their money make me really upset.

They are banking on someone out of state sending them deposit money only to find out it was a scam when they show up to move in.

Avoiding general solicitation scams is going to be a very important part of investing in the near future.

In some cases they can be flat out scams where the seller put a horrible tenant in place, cuts a side deal with the tenant and tells the buyer something completely different about the situation.

I think she was pretty sure that someone was out to either scam her or put her out on the street.

It's sad but LOTS of people are more interested in scamming money at least you have some protection.Hope this helps

Maybe I just have a scam alert built into my brain that goes off when I see posts like this.ps they dont usually put colleges in rural low cost areas.
