In general, you look at the MSA population growth, job market growth, major employers, major industries present, whether the infrastructure exists in the area, is supply lower or higher than the demand. 

At this point I’m focusing on education and my finances as I work a full time job as a registered nurse (9-530 M-F) and want to be smart about this.

They are trying to get a new buyer to subsidize their kid’s life... not your job.

Check the usual job posting sites (indeed, craigslist, etc.) and/or use google to make a list of brokerages and then make a pros and cons list for each. 

I'm a full time worker and I really enjoy my job but I have fully bought into the Mr Money Moustache idea that work is better when you don't need the money.
