Inspectors can be finnicky with location of smoke & CO detectors.

Reasons to wait: The tenants have a lot of furniture and they put dark curtains on all the windows, making the house feel dark and small.

From now on, before you rent the apartment you are going to check that there is the appropriate number of working smoke and CO2 detectors. 

Shooting in the dark here on this forum, but everybody knows someone you don't. 

Otherwise, you are investing with some dark shades covering your eyer.I never heard of a landlord telling their tenants his (or her) property is for sale.

@Jonathan GreeneAfter a closer examination we noticed the showerhead was leaking keeping the jacuzzi bathtub platform always wet, the bathroom wall tiles also tend to get wet and we mostly observed titles and tub turning dark with our earlier tenants but not with our previous tenants who were a family.

Then when I aske them basic things like do you smoke...and they say they didn't see that in the ad it is almost comical since that is literally the first sentence in the add, "No Smokers".Craigslist is definitely much better.

She said she would not smoke again.
