However, there continues to be a shortage of available homes for sale, and the homes that are for sale are priced on the extreme high side or are going into escrow in a matter of days, resulting in a need for rental units.A business partner of mine just recently purchased a 3 family in Western Massachusetts, remodeled kitchens bathrooms and re did the wood floors, ( all affordable renovations), and increased his rents by over 19%!!!!

I absolutely thought about somehow getting the money to buy my brother out because we were earning almost 3000 a month and the mortgage including escrow was only about 800 a month (and i have people for repairs so they aren’t too expensive), but the woman who was in charge of the duplex (living trust) while we were too young didn’t pay taxes and let the account accrue an escrow shortage and we started having to pay over 1800 a month just to catch up.

Now the growth of the base up there and housing shortages you may have some long term/ “off season” (non-summer) options, that wouldn’t been a bad thing but w the harsh winters, and likelyhood of cabin fever, is think your market is extremely small and even then, my requirements and checks would wipe out most of those interested.I wouldn’t waste my VA on it though.

Also you can get creative with a 2 or 3 family to get even closer to covering the mortgage because there is such a housing demand/ shortage in the area.
