Yes, Spain is one of the countries in which banks will lend to non-residents (they generally don't) but Spanish banks are much more conservative than US banks so it's more difficult to qualify, especially if you don't earn W2 income.

Market might be competitive but there is angles to stand out depending on what you are comfortable and able to handle, such as waiving an appraisal contingency, limitng inspection rights and time frames, closing time frames, allowing seller to stay-post closing, taking on difficult tenants, buying properties that might need repairs, etc.

I think it's probably less common here but I've often wondered about how difficult it would be to convert a detached garage, etc. on a property from a legal standpoint.
