So the main sewer lines were made of cast iron and in some cases clay material, which can allow roots to intersect the pipe and cause major problems.

Hi @Michael Clay,There are definitely different schools of thought on your approach, but even if you think it might have been a mistake, sometimes we can get away with mistakes :)  If you left a bottle of liquor for a recovering alcoholic, this could have gone south pretty quickly, but it worked out and to your benefit.

Depending on age, it could be clay, which is particularly susceptible to breaking / blockage.

Most are slab and due to our soil, we can get settling from clay expansion/contraction and also we get sinkholes in this area so when there are structural issues, it’s a must to get an engineering report to determine if they are caused by the clay or sinkhole activity.
