Yes it is true foreign (U.S.A.) dividends do not qualify for the dividend tax credit in Canada, but that does not automatically make them taxed at the top marginal tax rate, but at the receivers marginal tax rate.There are ways to mitigate (not eliminate) the high taxation storm you portray.

@Irina Belkofer - I agree with you that if you ask a lawyer if you need any legal service, title company if you need extra title coverage, insurance company if you are insured enough you are likely to get the answer more convenient for them.I also agree that if you know what you are doing, and know the risks and how to mitigate them, then you know what you are getting into and should not cave to fear.
