First thing I'd do is take stock of who I know who has demonstrated wisdom in your geographical area and are investing in an area that you are interested in.

I am also interested in investing in tax liens.This is a steep learning curve for me, so if you have any advice or words of wisdom, hit me up!

Well, run all this by your dad, I know your of legal age, but use his wisdom, this business has more ways to use and abuse young beginners than than a piglet at a hog trough. 

I suspect that "Long-Distance Real Estate Investing" will be the main book that I use for this project, given David's experience doing long-distance BRRRRs, but there are obviously plenty of other great materials out there too.Any long-distance BRRRR'ers with helpful words of wisdom to share?

Your best teacher, coach or mentor is YOU......You getting involved, You listening, observing, making offers, networking, hanging around folks you respect and are doing what you want to do, reading and exposure to  experience.Knowledge doesn't have to be expensive........Wisdom is priceless.
