It is OK to collect rent and the borrower of the loan will pay the mortgage.

You can also ask for a loan extension which you should do.  

If you are using a standard CA sales agreement, you probably have your loan contingency in place still.Your realtor should be working on asking for an extension to buy you time.

This is what adds to the inconvenience of this thing - it's all outsourced to some LID collections group with a terrible web page. 

I would imagine PA will look to collect on tax sales just like at sheriff sales.
