What I will admit is a little troubling to me are the numbers of respondents here whose answers border on "yea, it's illegal, anti-thetical to the concept of equal opportunity, inconsistent with the promise of the United States Constitution, but meh, no big deal".

so it seems there is an inherent anti-landlord bias in their research based on the group actually surveyed.  

As our savings grow (still less than 100k, but definitely more money than either of us have ever seen in our lives), I've been thinking about using the cash to put 20% down on well-priced homes in other states that meet the 1% rule, renting them out, and then having local property managers keep up with the day-to-day maintenance.Still need to do a lot of research--I know the FIRE community is very anti-outsourcing for property management, and I know it cuts into profits, so I'm curious about the BP community.

Clicking on the link led me to lots of anti white articles.  

From what other landlords tell me Flint has difficult inspections, high fees, and a court system that is anti-landlord.

You need to have clear rental criteria in place that does not violate anti-discrimination law and fair housing law.

In the state of Florida at least, the laws have become so anti landlord it isn't even funny!
