Hello BiggerPockets Community, My name is Rygen and I live in Princeton, New Jersey after relocating from the West Coast with work.

I live in a older 1950s home and am about to relocate.

By crafting a bill this incredibly vague with little to no explanation as to how or who will decide what costs are “necessary to maintain the dwelling unit” or “substantially likely to force a tenant household to move or involuntarily relocate”, you have guaranteed ample employment opportunities for attorneys to argue both for and against this.

The first question is "What about the current renters and tenants, where are they going to be relocated to?"

My family and I are relocating to northern VA this summer.

I'm willing to help them relocate with $$, but this new situation confuses me.

Portland just passed a new law if the rent is raised for any amount and the tenant moves because of it, the landlord must pay relocation fees. 

I’m playing the long game and this has been a significant mental hurdle for me: deciding whether it’s better to plant a flag here and now or to sacrifice control for more attractive market metrics.As it stands I won't be financially able to relocate for at least another 12 months, so if I want to get in the game “now” and not “at least 12 months from now,” Chicago seems to be the place to make my first move.Thank you for consuming my brain stew.

Long Beach is still finalizing the details of the relocation assistance law.
