Yes, you aren't taking advantage of the better financing options available for homeowners, but that's only one of many things to take into account when investing in real estate.California is also a really tough state to invest in; high prices, unfriendly to landlords, etc.

I run a call center for Real Estate where we call for investors and I can tell ya, your best bet with such limited time is cold calling targeted lists (high equity within your buy box) for 3-4 hrs every day.

But does anyone have real feedback about how good the insulation is or how practical these homes really are? 

GO DIRECTLY TO THE AGENTSJust because a real estate agent hasn’t publicly marketed a home yet, doesn’t mean they don’t have hot leads for you.

This is fairly standard in the Westchester area given most homes are 100+ years old and the building code / inspectors didn't really come to power until the 70s or 80s.Likely your real estate agent will note the issues.
