I would say make sure you communicate and structure your plan in advance. 

I am now amending his returns, and he will get large checks shortly from the government.Certain taxpayers may find they are in a position to maximize tax efficiencies for 2020 and beyond.

Obviously the current coronavirus situation is going to make that a bit more challenging for now but you can still start driving for dollars and looking for distressed property and communicating with sellers.

But the downside of spending the cash and then actually needing it for operations at a later date is too high.You are in a very difficult position and I would recommend that you keep communication as clear and unfiltered as possible between the two parties and keep your personal interest out of your communication decision path.

If they have a legitimate reason for not meeting their obligations, I ask them to stay in communication with me.

Communication is key.
