You may compare yourself as wealthy relative to others in modern society but other than a few outlier periods and regions the stratification of society has largely stayed the same through our history.

I grew up (in Chicago) with gas stoves but here in the south I believe just about every African American applicant that has ever contacted us about a vacancy has asked if it's "all electric".When I ask why the interest in all electric they'll inevitable say "gas is expensive".
