The black marker keeps the machine from reading the address makes them handle the mail by hand which seems to get the system updated sooner then the "right" way of doing it.If you choose to use a marker to black out the old mailing address, be sure to also black out the bar code lines at the bottom of the envelope, otherwise that mail might find its way back where yo don't want it!
