Doing my twice-a-year visits (plane tickets, hotels, etc.) make no fiscal sense with the revenue from a single $40K SFR.

This was a bit of a rude awakening for me. i had planed to do all the renovations myself but even though I was the owner I was not allowed to do plumbing or electrical as it is a "Commercial Building" and they needed licensed contractors for those two parts.

Airlines charge $500 for a plane ticket, then they tack on taxes, baggage fee, booking fee, and sell you a 3.4oz bottle of wine for $9.

Perhaps if you spend some time and consistently volunteer to feed the homeless or get on a plane and go to a third world country to volunteer on a clean water project, the reality of larger world will make your desires to spend on bling less significant. 

But I compare it to turbulence on a plane.

I now know to check the flood plane when looking in this area.

Miserable plane ride.

Long term, I do not want to live anywhere, but have the ability to jump in a plane and go everywhere.

There is something to be said about being able to drive by your properties if you need to without having to hop on a plane first. 

I bought it for myself but planes changed and I will be moving out of state.
