This has less to do with effectiveness of remote work in general, and more with outdated practices for hiring and motivating the right employees who will be successful in that kind environment.Also, a new generation or two of workers that are brought up in an environment where tele-commuting is a real and viable option, will approach it differently than someone who was office-bound for the first few decades of their career - suddenly getting the option to work from home makes if difficult to resist the urge to party til the music stops, as it were.Having lived both in a small town in France, as well as in Tokyo, Japan, I can attest to the fact that cities both large and small can be made extremely livable.
