Even if you screw up by doing the work yourself you should have enough room in your numbers (due to your labor savings) to have it fixed.

With labor, the trashout came to $6500!

Materials are likely about $12-14/sheet, so that's about $18-23/sheet for all labor to leave ready for paint.For reference, that's for larger jobs and good contractors who are fully insured.

You make it seem as if the landlord is making a killing on these free paint jobs well if your friend feels that the amount of labor he is giving the landlord isnt worth a free home and free parking then he is free to move and start paying rent.
