I've seen AC condensate pump lines that were operating properly, discharging onto the roof, get bent over and decked over, that continued to pump water into the ceiling void destroying three floors of apartments over a two year period before the cause was, literally, uncovered.Water runs downhill, and looks for the easiest path to do so.
