Licensed Roofer vs General Contractor doing roofing job

Hi All

I need some guidance:

I have a quote from general contractor and Roof licensed contractor(and preferred contractor for one of the shingle manufacturing company). The licensed's roofer quote is higher by 1K. General contractor is great to deal with compared to roof licensed contractor and he is giving good little perks.

I am inclined to select general contractor for my roofing, but I am thinking that he is not licensed so he may not do a good job or may not know latest rules/compliance etc. My insurance company will not be checking the roof work so I need to make sure that they do a good job.

Can you pls provide insights that will help me take the decision? What questions should I ask them that will help me with my decision making?

I'd use the roofer. Get 2-3 roofing bids. Better to be safe then sorry, not worth the 1K. If you get multiple roofing bids you can compare them
